They help in the formation and maintenance of muscle, tissue and are vital in bone health, liver and kidney function. If you or your loved ones are into fitness and regulars at the gym, protein consumption and protein rich foods are definitely a topic for discussion. Protein comes from several sources. A myth about protein is that people of the vegetarian and vegan persuasion are oftentimes deficient in protein. Peanuts
Peanuts are a wholesome, all round favourite. Consumed whole, in peanut butter, in energy and protein bars, they are one of the most rich sources of protein. Peanuts are supposed to contain a whopping 26 grams of protein in an average 100 gram serving. One note of caution, peanuts can cause anaphylaxis in those allergic to it. However, for everyone else peanuts are a must consume and one of the best sources of protein known.

Edamame
Edamame is a delicious snack made with immature soybeans, steamed or boiled in their pods. It can often be served with salt, soy sauce and other condiments. A 100 gram portion of edamame contains 11 grams of protein. This makes it another excellent source of plant based protein for vegans and vegetarians.

Tofu
Tofu, known as bean curd, is made by coagulating soy milk and pressing the resultant curds into solid blocks of varying softness. Tofu can be soft, silken, firm, extra firm or super firm. Tofu is a vegan, protein rich food and is lactose free, making it a perfect alternative for those with lactose-intolerance or those who follow a vegan diet. It contains 8 -10 grams of proteins per a 100 gram serving. One can easily substitute paneer with firm tofu in Indian recipes including shahi paneer, kadhai paneer and palak paneer.

Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is a creamy, milk product that is a high protein food. Used extensively in smoothies, dips like tzatziki and other yummy combinations with produce like fruits and vegetables, it is a universal favourite. An average 100 gram serving of Greek Yogurt contains 10 grams of high quality protein.

Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds are an excellent source of magnesium, trace minerals and vitamins. They’re a fun, wholesome snack that many consume instead of processed foods like wafers etc. A little known fact about pumpkin seeds is that they are considered to be among the list of protein rich foods. A 100 gram serving of pumpkin seeds gives you about 10 grams of protein.
